| Hi Alan,
I noticed your site on Jim Ramsay's site, and turned to these steam Sentinals.
I worked in Tennents for many years, left about 1980,
and in the maintenance dept. for a time on the fitters section, and noted maintenance of the Sentials on
planned maintenance reports.
So I was pleased to see these phots, as there was
no chance when working.
James Tennent, the founder, had two sons, Norman
and Howard,
Howard remained in charge after the Father died,
and Norman went to Crewe works as a Director.
Howard named the loco's after his family,
There was debate in the works about the use of steam
as BR was going diesel, but the works engineer at the time was an older man, and insisted steam was the most reliable.
you probably know one is in Summerlee and two are
at Bo'Ness being overhauled.
hope these comments are of interest,
and you have a fine site, and been taking fine railway
pics for some time.
I only started in quantity after resorting to part time
work,
Alastair Blackwood

| Excellent picure, like the others: but I think it is St Gallen and not Fribourg!
The colour is too good for Fribourg and is St Gallen as I remember it from 1993; I thikn the number as well [Fribourg trolleybuses are numbered in the 500s]; and the rails in the road are from the Trogenerbahn. |

| Quite correct, it is St.Gallen. The caption has been amended. |

| Good afternoon
I have spent this afternoon looking at your recent collections taken in Scotland and various ones in Switzerland. I am going to Switzerland at the end of next week and am familiar of the location this shot was taken from a previous visit and wondered if you could tellme roughly how long it is in walking distance from the station please.
I am a cautious rater but your collection is excellent.
Thank you

| Dear Alan,
Your site was drawn to my attention at a discussion group I subscribe to, Railway Modelling Web2
http://www.rmweb2.co.uk and you might be pleased
to know you have drawn many favourable comments.
My own comment on the subject photograph is that
is the most breathtaking, awe inspiring, magnificent
photograph I've seen in years.
As an ex-pat Scotsman, your photograph summonsed emotion from my me that I haven't
felt for some time indeed. Thank you.
Do you think it might be possible for me to obtain
a means of enlarging your photograph for framing
and display in my home ??
I would be only too happy to pay whatever costs
might be involved, but I'm not too sure about what
process would be involved.
Thank you and very best regards,
Charles Craig

A section of narrow gauge track serving the Tay salmon fishing station at Seggieden, near Perth Railway Relics |
|
|
|---|
| Alan,
I remember spotting this section of narrow gauge when, as a youngster in the '60s, I used to take the train from Larbert to Dundee to visit my grandmother. At that time, steam locos were still very much the norm. I'm sure the main line still went through Glenfarg at that time. It wasn't until the early 80's that I actually made a point of finding it to prove that my memory served me correctly. Didn't realise it was a salmon fishery though! |

K4 61994 storms out of the snow shed and onto the moor with 1Z94 Glasgow - Fort William (01/09/07) UK - Steam in Scotland |
|
|
|---|
| Just magic. The composition breaks the trend for such shots, and the location is totally unique. I had planned to go for this, at the exact same spot no less. However, when I saw the weather forecast I chickened out! |
|
|
|---|
| I had to go back to this spot as I managed to lose my monopod after taking the shot of 40145 the previous weekend. Found it after a bit of searching and it hadn't suffered any ill effects from its week on the moor. Moral ...... don't lay any of your gear on the ground and wander off looking for a better angle. |

Needless to say, the E1 got the shot. ... a truly weatherproof camera. |
